ple about the battle WBLIJUN

1230 END

An officer from the War Office (M.0.12) came to see me to-day. He has been set the task of trying to reconstruct the battle of Hong Kong. The following problems he finds difficult to solve:-

(1) Fersonnel

(a) Is it true that 3 ships carrying evacuees left late in November or early December?

If so, what were the names of these ships and approximately how many did they carry?

(b) Is there any information of evacuation after these ships had left, if it is a fact that they did?

(2) Denial Schemes Civilian.

(a) Did either evacuation or destruction of machine tools and plant take place?

(b) Were demolitions of civilian shipyards, railway stock at Kowloon, motor buses, power houses etc. ordered, and, if so, is there any evidence to show that they took place.

(3) A meeting took place in the C.0. on 11 March, 1941, on this subject.

Can you help? The above reads rather like a"P.Q."
